THE BAD NEWS...So many of us, especially those of us in full-time vocational ministry, can get so busy trying to produce fruit. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try or how hard we work, we cannot produce fruit on our own/in our own strength.
THE GOOD NEWS...Jesus tells us that HE is the vine and we are the branches. We MUST be constantly connected to the vine. That is the ONLY way we can produce fruit. So the most important thing is that we are in constant communion with Him. NOT that we stay busy for Him or come up with clever ideas for Him.
No matter how much we strive to bear fruit, apart from Jesus it is impossible. And, when we do bear fruit, we must avoid the danger of taking credit for the fruit.
“Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself without remaining in the vine, neither can you [bear fruit, producing evidence of your faith] unless you remain in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.” -John 15:4-5 AMP
