5 Questions On Worship

A little over a year ago I was interviewed The Worship Journals

1. What does worship mean to you?
I know that these days we use the word “worship” many times to describe a certain kind of music. I believe worship is more than just a certain type of music, it is a lifestyle. Worship is the way we live our lives, not just the songs we sing. When you worship something or someone, it means that you adore and place higher value on that person or thing than yourself. In other words, you are convinced that that person or thing deserves your heart, time, energy, and resources. In the life of a Christian, we are to worship God with our everyday lives. We are to do everything in a way that brings glory to Him…what we eat, what we think, what we say, what we watch, etc. That is true worship.

2. What do you think happens when you worship?
When I worship, I am humbling myself before God and acknowledging His sovereignty. I am essentially saying, “God, You are worth living for. You deserve all the credit. You are my God.” The Lord finds great pleasure in that as our Father and our Lover and draws us close to Himself.

3. What causes you to worship?
Seeing, with my spiritual eyes, a glimpse of who He is, His character, and His love for His children.

4. How is worship displayed in your life?
It is displayed in the way I treat people, in what I look at on TV and online, in the way that I spend my time and money, etc. I would have to admit that I do not live it out perfectly. I fall short everyday in worshiping God with my life. However, I strive to rely fully on His grace to help me walk out my devotion to Him.

5. What is your favorite song and why?
My all time favorite song is “I Am In Love With You” by Darrell Evans. I think it’s almost 10 minutes long, but it is such a powerful song! When I was in college, I used to put that song on repeat, lock my bedroom door, and worship God with everything in me. The Lord would meet me in very special ways during those times. I think I’ve probably listened to that song 10,000 times by now. My current favorite song is “Counting On God” by Jared Anderson (Desperation Band). The second time I heard that song, my wife and I were visiting a church and they opened with that song. The people leading were so joyful and it sounded awesome! They really did justice to that song and made the song come alive. It’s been a real encouraging song for me during this season of my life.
